Papa Grandes is located just off the main strip in Rehoboth, and is definitely worth seeking out. They have a very good happy hour, if you can squeeze into the tiny bar. The bar itself only has six or eight stools, but there is a small sitting area next to it with a few high tops. During happy hour they offer two dollar tacos, we ordered one each of the fish and the pork. They come on soft tortillas and are very overstuffed. The fish taco was crispy and went well with our drinks, and the pork was even tastier, but was so juicy it just sent liquid everywhere. Their menu is extensive and has so many delicious looking options we almost didn't join our party at a different restaurant for dinner. We will definitely be going back to try the buttermilk fried chicken mole, and the Churros and Pot of Chocolate on the dessert menu look sublime. It may be a good place for drinks, but it seems like a great place for food.

This was our first time to PAPA Grande, and we were pleased! The spicy margaritas and spicy mango margaritas where the best I have ever had. The portions we large and the flavor excellent! Our waitress Kaitlin was very attentive and made sure we waited for nothing. We will definitely be back.

Two stars because I'm rounding up from 1-1/2. Place was a real disappointment, especially since I'm such a fan of Matt's Fish Camp in Bethany (same ownership). I've seen this place get bad ratings because of the service, but I give it low marks simply for the food itself. The menu is a bit puzzling...there are a few eye-catchers, but overall it seems forced. And the outcome was either way too salty (all of the seafood appetizers) or completely bland and uninspired (the short rib enchiladas). One comment about the service: when one of the servers brought the appetizers, a carrot fell out of the bowl and onto the table. The server promptly picked up the carrot and put it back into the bowl, saying "oh, the table's clean". This experience won't keep us from going back to Matt's Fish Camp, but I'll probably be a bit more guarded than usual. It would be easy to chalk this experience up to a bad night in the kitchen, but I worry that the franchise has become overextended. We'll see...

This was a great experience and underrated on Yelp. I'm still not understanding the Yelp review logic. No, it's not the best Mexican food I've ever had--but would you really expect that to be in a beach town? It's just solid food, fairly priced (for the beach), and our server was positively great. Chipper, friendly, and on point. Truly a class act girl. Margaritas are clearly homemade (as they should be, but you'd be surprised what I've had at Mexican restaurants) and very tasty. Guacamole was a generous portion, and the chips are tasty. My mom ordered the crab tostadas (I think that's what it was called) and they gave her a huge portion of crab on each tostada. I don't even know how they make money on that dish; I think they actually need to reduce the portion for that reason! Again, don't go expecting a world class Mexican experience. Do go expecting a solid, tasty, casual tex mex restaurant to get your fix during your beach vacation. Oh, and do check out the rooftop bar, which is first come first serve but does have table service and the full menu. And also, it was a bit loud in there. Seems to be a theme in Rehoboth. Either the sound insulation isn't attended to well, or folks drink and excitedly chatter in their beachy no-stress way.

Stopped in here after trying another Mexican restaurant that had a long wait. The space is really nice looking and the staff are warm and friendly without being pushy. Our waitress was kind enough to swap a diet coke for the homemade root beer my daughter did not like, and not charge us for it. I have to say I liked the root beer but it isn't for kids. It's a complex flavor. We got chips and guacamole. It was a large portion of guacamole and our waitress brought us salsa as well. Both were very tasty with really good chips to boot. My son ordered the jumbo wings. He said they were meaty and just the right amount of spice. I ordered the blackened fish tacos. The fish was very good, fresh and firm. But the tortillas were store bought and cold. They killed the dish. My daughter got the fried fish tacos. Same issue with the tortillas and her fish was soggy and had a terrible after taste. Neither she nor I could eat them. Overall I think this restaurant has Graf potential. They just have to pay attention to the little things like using or at least heating up the tortillas. Oh.....and to the hostess who kept walking through the restaurant with a clipboard and a sour look on your face, diners don't love someone taking notes on where they are in their dining experience. Knock it off. It was super distracting. Figure out another way to keep track of how far along tables are in their meal.

Delicious but missing "oomph". I got the cheesesteak burrito, which was delicious but very heavy. Would like more guacamole and sauce and less steak. The margarita pitcher was mostly ice but I got a single Maximo margarita, which was awesome but pricy. My wife got the pork belly bowl. I think it had potential but could have been turned up a notch with a better spicy sauce.

Not what I hoped for , had potential, but this particular night a miss, I will try again, as I really would like to improve this not so great experience. To be fair, I will not taint it with my specific complaint,,,I will try again.

Taco Bell with a liquor license . The kids fish tacos were so bad we went to a other restaurant for more food . The taco salad was non memorably. The crab seafood something was really something . Don't understand how you mess up Mexican food.

We were excited to try this new place after hearing good things, but our experience was not great. The Margarita was just ok, the queso arrived at the table slightly burnt on top, our meals, tacos (chicken, skirt steak, and chicken) received mixed reviews. Skirt steak tacos were a little under cooked and a bit tough, chicken taco was better, but not outstanding, the ground beef taco was very good. After trying all three we decided the most flavor was in the ground beef taco. Rice was little spicy for my taste, but others liked it. The Cheese quesadilla was very good and the honey dipping sauce was outstanding. The real reason for the less than positive review is the ambience and service. While we were seated quickly for a Saturday night, we didn't have a waitress forever, we ordered drinks and queso first, the queso arrived (burnt) before our drinks arrived. We waited quite a while to see our waitress and her waitress in training, which made it difficult to address issues. We were seated in the front part of the restaurant at a table that was barely big enough for two and we had a party of four. As we looked around all the tables seemed to be the same size and people had to remove the condiments from the table just to have room for drinks and plates, to top off the tight quarters at the table, you are basically in a walkway with waitstaff and hostesses constantly walking by you taking people to other tables. It did not make for an enjoyable meal. I would suggest that the owners change that area up by seating only two-tops there, pushing the tables up against the window and providing for a shelf or area to place the condiments above or to the side of the tables. If we had ordered fajitas there would have been no way everything could have fit on the table as it's currently configured. The upstairs patio is very nice, but the closeness and proximity is pretty much similar to what we experienced downstairs. The food was just ok, nothing spectacular, there are better places for great Mexican food in Rehoboth's and lewes area (Agave, Dos Locos, Mariachi) the prices are good. If they can address the timeliness of service and the ambience it would be much better.

A party of 4 arrived at Papa Grande's on Sunday afternoon at 5. They have a great happy hour menu with food starting at $5. for dinnet we had the pork belly tacos the shrimp tacos the shrimp fajitas and the skirt steak fajitas. Oh yeah we also had their delicious chunky guacamole. We all enjoyed our meal from start to finish and our server was awesome. we started with the guacamole with the entrees to follow I think we only had to wait about 15 minutes maybe even 20 before our food was being served. I can't wait to go back there again this Sunday. Everyone gave their entre a thumbs up! Delicious and fresh.

This place is great. Apart from having an awesome rooftop deck and great atmosphere the food is really good. As a Mexican I can say this place is pretty authentic. We had jicama and carrot sticks, guac and chips, and brussels sprouts with mole. Everything is very fresh and great tasting although I will say the mole was lacking a just a little flavor. Service was also excellent we had a very nice waitress. Highly recommend

We had a large party on Labor Day weekend. Longer wait than estimate. Helpful and friendly staff. Great spicy guacamole and chips. My steak taco was bad. Steak raw and undercooked and unseasoned and missing onions and peppers. "Taco" was uncooked dough stuck to a paper base unaccountably on the plate. Inedible.

  • David E.

Food was just ok. Staff was terrible. Acted as though they didn't want to be working. Would like to try their roof top deck for drinks.

  • Matt L.

Great happy hour deals, and really quick service on the rooftop deck. Margaritas were a little sweet, but that was to be expected for a happy hour deal. Fresh ceviche, awesome guac, cheesy goodness, and a corn ice cream sundae to finish it all off...

  • Catrina S.

The atmosphere was unique and fun - the service was great but I did expect a little more "pop" of flavor to the food & sangria. I'd certainly stop in to try additional menu items in the future & update this review if I come across something unforgettable. Great little place to pop in for a quick drink - pomegranate margarita was delish! and the happy hours and specials are pretty awesome.

So we were starving and ate all the food, but the overall experience was not great. The presentation of food was lack-luster. I'm fairly certain the only reason people are there is to slurp down the margaritas on the top deck; which is open seating!? Menu isn't big enough either with exception to taco options. I

I tried this place twice and was attempting to be optimistic since the outside seating looked so inviting. The first time with a party or three and the second with seven. Ten people could not find one positive thing about the food. The service was okay and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. The pitcher of margaritas was $35 and the amount of alcohol was minimal. The menu left little to chose from and not many items you would find in a normal Mexican restaurant. The bathrooms were upstairs which is unacceptable to the elderly and handicapped. The establishment as far as the inside area was small and the echo was unsettling. Will not return.

  • Reiko B.

I got the crab salad tostadas. The tostadas were really three small chips and the crab salad was too mayo-ey for my taste. Ate them with jalapeños to make them palatable. He got steak tacos and they weren't anything special. The side dish of beans and rice was a tiny cup. And kids got the nachos but was a pile of chips with a dribble of beans and cheese, a huge dollop of sour cream (and seriously, that is not the same as crema) with a splash of salsa. Waste of $$. Margaritas were on the sweet side but at least I had some booze to make me forget about the food. Haha

  • FoodGu Y.

The only reason it gets two stars is for the tequila prices. First I ordered the spicy jalapeño margarita and let me tell you I've had spicier cheesecake. There wasn't even a hint of spice. Next was the crab cheese dip, it was impossible to tell if there was even crab in it. The beef tacos were bland and the one choice of salsa had zero heat or flavor. It was tomatoes with a hint of cilantro and onion. This is just another restaurant that is going to fail in this location. Do your self a favor and go to Dos Locos and get the pork burrito and the crab stack. Both are must haves when I come to Rehoboth! Food Guy Out!

  • Hillary T.

Was so excited about this place when it opened, and couldn't wait to finally get the chance to eat on the rooftop. The food was absolutely nothing to write home about, and the menu didn't really stick out to me as special. It's quite expensive. The corn appetizer was the best part of the meal by far. The $33 house margarita pitcher was also really good. But again, drinks are expensive. The seared tuna fajitas were just meh. I don't know if I'll be back. Reason my review is getting 2 stars and not one is because of the corn and margaritas.

  • Jackson C.

The restaurant would get a four star from me except for one fatal flaw: They never answer their phone. We had a wine tasting there once and enjoyed the place. We called after that to see if we could make a reservation. We left a message on what appeared to be someone's cell phone and never got a call back. So we went to another restaurant that night. This happened more than once. So more than once they lost business from us, people who eat out regularly in Rehoboth. I recommended only going here if you happen to be walking by and drop in.

  • T K.

This place was a disappointment. The two sloppy Jo tacos were very small, with dry ground beef and no vegetables. The fish tacos were tasty, but the helping was more like a snack than dinner. Chips and salsa were bland. Margherita was sour and caused an upset stomach. There are much better Mexican food places in the area. We will not return.

I wonder if the previous negative reviews are a result of growing pains. Everything was fine, or better than fine. Good service, good portions, good drinks and good food. I don't need much more than that. Front door staff did their job well, our waitress was adequate and the good came out fast - a must for us folks with small kids. Worth going to for sure, and I think the best Mexican option in town by far.

  • Andrew R.

soooooo it was ok. i guess that is the best way to describe it. first off, the service was very good considering it was our servers second week. chips and salsa were very good, and my friends all said the margarita pitcher was excellent. i had the fish tacos, which were just kind of meh. not much flavor really, and i thought $14 was a little pricey. i will say that the rice/bean side was tasty and had a nice kick to it. butttttttt, it was very very warm in the restaurant. we were to the left of the bar in the corner at a table for 6. we finally begged them to open the windows because as we say in jersey, we were 'plotzing'.

Great food & a bar that I could belly up to all day long. I really enjoy every sip of tequila and nibble of food I've ever had at Papa Grandes. The staff is incredibly welcoming, the service is fast and the bar tenders have engaging personalities that make you want to stay for hours on end. Trust me I've done it. The margaritas (tried the smoked tequila) are delicious. Not too sweet and not too tart, these are the perfect for my palate. I've overheard people ask them a certain way and the staff is willing to accommodate. A great, casual place with quality food and drinks is exactly what this town needs. Check out the upstairs because the sunsets are pretty sweet (especially with tequila)! Cheers!

I went to RehobothFoodie.com looking for honest suggestions for tasty Mexican food. This papa grande popped up. I must say I enjoyed the food and attentive staff. I ordered seared raw tuna that came with fajita style setup. It was very good. My husband thoroughly enjoyed flank steak styled the same way. I ordered the corn on the cob appetizer and guacamole w chips n salsa. They were both fabulous.

Great ambiance and location. Server was super nice and very sweet. Kidd menu was perfect and had enough selections to satisfy three different little eaters. The peel and eat shrimp special was spicy , abundant and enough as a meal if you are not too hungry. The por and poblano tacos were fantasticly fabulous -- flavors very balanced. The blackened Mahi Mahi tacos were delicious, but battered Mahi Mahi tacos were nm or as good. Tortillas were cold as was the side dish on the kids meal....that was the only real negative. Otherwise a great meal!

We had dinner at Papa Grande's last night. Given the popularity of Dos Locos and Agave (which really set a new standard for Mexican food in the Rehoboth - Lewes area) we were hopeful Papa Grande's would be great. Unfortunately Papa Grande's was just so-so. The Nachos were pretty good but there was no guacamole, and they could have been layered rather than just cheese and beans on the top layer. The shrimp bowl was flavorful but the shrimp was undercooked and for $21 you only get 4 medium sized shrimp. The chicken-chorizo enchiladas were too spicy to enjoy. however the tortillas seemed fresh. The service was ok but not great. For example when I got a refill on my ice tea the server added no ice...just gave me a glass of room temperature tea. I also asked for fresh lemon with the ice tea. I was told "this restaurant does not use lemons". To which I felt like saying, "well you should start using lemons because many people like their ice tea with a friggin lemon!" She did offer a lime, however if the owner is trying to save money he should offer lemons instead because they are cheaper. Once we finished dining it took forever together our check. Total meal cost was $64. The three of us all agreed we would have enjoyed Agave much more and Dos Locos a bit more. Well we gave it a try but I think it is on the "one and done" list for us.

Really enjoyed this place! Our server was great and really knew the menu. She was very helpful in making sure I could eat, despite not being able to eat dairy. Their guacamole was very good, simple but flavorful.

  • Nik M.

We were really excited for some awesome Mexican cuisine. What we got was far from that. We started with the chips and guacamole. That's where we should have stopped. The guacamole was fantastic, but the chips were just ok. They didn't seem freshly made. I would bet they were just bought. From there we ordered chicken tacos and their "special" salad. The taco meat was dry and tortilla flavorless. The salad was some a small amount of lettuce with a gigantic tomato that was attempted to be cut like a flower. Better knife skills are required. All that wonderfullness for over $50. We didn't even have alcoholic drinks. Much better places to eat in that area!

So disappointing. Great outdoor deck. Margaritas were on the sweet side and not very boozy. Chopped salad is very strange, big chunks of jicama I guess. No greens at all. Service fine. Probably not returning

3.5 - 4 stars. Very good overall dinner. Great apos of shaved Brussels sprouts, queso fundido, and charred octopus. Mains of tuna tacos, Carnegie asada tacos, fried egg and pork belly rice bowl, and fried egg and scrapple burrito (yes scrapple!) all got big thumbs up from the group. Service was very timely. We'd go back again.

I was looking forward to the opening of this restaurant, so I was disappointed when I read the reviews. I almost didn't go but when I saw the reply to one Yelper suggesting that the customer check out the happy hour specials, I decided I would do that as well. The bartender was very friendly and provided prompt service. The guac and salsa were very tasty and the $5 drink specials were pretty good. What was really bad though were the tacos. While I realize they were only $2.00, the tortillas were chewy, the pork dry and the fish flavorless...very disappointing.

  • Sherry J.

Stopped here for a drink on the rooftop with Nicole B and her bf. I ordered a $12 pineapple margarita, and I hated it. The bartender noticed and offered to make me something else. I liked my $7 drink much better, and she took the other one off my bill. That is a good bartender. The guys next to us had tacos and fajitas that looked and smelled fantastic. I would definitely come back to try the food, and I love sitting on the rooftop.

We sat upstairs, outside. The guacamole was great! Fajitas, quesadillas, and nachos. Interesting twist on standard Mexican food, but it was delicious.

Much like the other reviews, I was disappointed with this place only because of the high prices. The food is fine but we were really surprised when the check came. Won't be returning.

Not usually a big Mexican fan, but this organization creates outstanding restaurants. Went on a Sunday evening. Weather was perfect, so outside dining was requested. We were seated immediately. Great service. I ordered on the recommendations of our server. Salsa and chips were ok. The house margaritas were great. The ceviche was excellent. Everything looked great. I will definitely return many times to try out the rest of the menu.

Not a good place for families with kids. No kids menu, expensive kids juice, table was so close together was not able to get out of the chair without asking table behind me to move. Food was ok. Guacamole was good but expensive. Waitress was not friendly.

  • Patti N.

Love the addition of the outside terrace, it's upstairs. I probably shouldn't write this now everyone will come. The staff is very knowledgeable and excellent. Great happy hour and overall a stellar Mexican spot in Rehoboth. Guac is wonderful.

Great happy hour. Great roof deck. A little bit expensive for Mexican food but well worth it. The quality is very good. margaritas are the best in town. Excellent service for roof deck as well.

This place has been ten, different names over the past 10 years but we love the open air, roof deck in the evening, watching the sun go down. Good service. Good guacamole and chips. Good cosmopolitan. Margarita is not as good as in the past (when it was Caba) but still acceptable. We'll be back even if it's a different name next year.

A great atmosphere isn't enough to save Pap Grandes. The back deck IS an awesome spot to hang out, but I was disappointed in the ceviche (too limey and the consistency of the fish wasn't right (although there was a respectable amount of fish). The chips and salsa were standard mexican restaurant - and the margs were underwhelming (especially since you can go to modern mixture just down the way)

We ordered the Chicken Quesadillas and Steak fajita platter. The steak was cooked through and was extremely tasty. The quesadilla was perfect! It was accompanied by a honey pepper sauce. The cheese was stringy and perfect! I'll be back!
